The 1508 steering damper uses a special "twin tube" system in which the oil circulates. The small nitrogen reservoir contains 8 bars of nitrogen pressure which ensures optimal, slightly progressive, damping performance. The nitrogen pressure makes sure that oil temperature variations do not affect damping performance. Damping is constant because build up of air bubbles in the oil is not possible.
