Not all crash protectors are the same...

R&G protectors rely on nothing more than consistent quality engineering and are designed without compromise for effective protection against damage. Their protectors are turned from a special grade of solid nylon which is proven to wear evenly, scrubbing speed from a crash and saving further damage. All replacement bolts are heat treated, so that they are unlikely to shear or snap on impact.

Many companies make crash protectors that fit into completely unsuitable places on a bike, such as 6mm fairing screws, laterally mounted bracketry (which could fold in on impact) or unsupported frame spars which could easily bend or break. In their experience the only place on modern bikes capable of dissipating these kinds of forces is the point where frame meets engine.

On Some bikes like the YZF R6 it is possible to fit an additional crash protector at the rear swingarm pivot point, without impeding the rider. This offers the obvious benefits of an additional protection point and can be fitted very easily.
